Jerusalem Post’s Editor-in-Chief, Yaakov Katz, hosted a webinar discussion with South African Chief Rabbi Dr. Warren Goldstein and SA Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng. The discussion covered religion and Israel, and the CJ shared his love for Israel as well as his Christian beliefs. He also spoke of how SA could be a “game-changer” in helping facilitate peace in the Middle East.
This sparked unnecessary, yet expected controversy across the media from the anti-Israel groups who issued public statements.
Antisemitic activist group BDS-SA (recently rebranded to Africa 4 Palestine) submitted a formal complaint to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), calling for CJ Mogoeng to be removed from his esteemed position, citing bias against the Palestinians, and that it is against his judicial responsibility. CJ Mogoeng stood firm by his beliefs and responded to the JSC, highlighting his right to freedom of religion and speech, and reminding them that he was not in any way in contravention of the Constitution.
